Artist, designer, and a bit of affogato aficionado
Hi! My name is Ka Yun (pronounced like cayenne) and I am a creative based in California. I’ve always had a quirky imagination. As someone with multiple cultural and personal identities, I embrace these in my works and that lend to unique perspective on how I approach different projects. My interest in design has never left along and I worked professionally as a designer since 2020. Since then, I was able to merge design concepts and illustration quirks to build layers in my works.
An inside joke and the fact the narwhal is the closest real thing to a unicorn led to the name, blunarwhale. Officially, blunarwhale started in 2014 and again in 2020, but I’ve been drawing and painting as long as I can remember. It started as a creative outlet, and now here I am.

From illustration work to graphic design, blunarwhale offers a different way to see and experience the world. My works are inspired by experiences I have and stories I learned, which influence my thought process in conveying the message and solving communication barriers through design.
My artwork revolves around portraits, nature, and experiments with colors. I work primarily with watercolor, gouache, and pixels.
